Perspective Plan

Mission of Plan:

To concentrate on EQW(Educational Quality Work) that seeks to develop the live-centre of an educational institution, viz, curriculum and teaching learning, with which the teaching community are primarily involved, in order to match standards of some of the best institutions of higher learning adopting the best practices of curriculum development, teaching and learning.

Phases of Plan:

The plan will be in three parts to be realized in three phases

  • Phase I : Teacher Development : (2009-2011) The drive towards intensification of efforts to improve research qualification and publications in refereed journals by almost all teachers will be the topmost priority during this phase. Interim targets of at least one annual publication of the highest quality in an overseas journal per teacher will be set. At the end of this phase at least 70% of faculty will have obtained their PhDs.
  • Phase II Student Self : (2012-2013) – Learning will be optimized using both conventional and modern best practices. Innovative self – learning activities will be devised. Student abilities to make oral presentations, to conduct and participate in, group work (following modern management team skills) and to write, present and publish well documented papers will be developed to the highest possible degree. The communication laboratory work to enhance spoken English and writing skills, will be optimized.
  • Phase III :(2014) The work done during the first two phases will be reinforced and consolidated using professional methods of measurement of outcomes and benchmarking.

The three phases are not chronologically truncated but will be managed together simultaneously with only the emphases differing as stated above.

Method and Model:

By far the best method developing curriculum, teaching learning is Academic Audit in current practice in the US, UK, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. This is just another name for EQW(Education Quality Work). The model that most suits Indian colleges and universities is that which is followed jointly by the US and Hong Kong institutions, namely, CMM (The Capability Maturity Model) Which envisages phased development form ‘zero’ level to level ‘4’ and it is more or less compatible with the mission of IQAC. This plan is in its initial stages of discussion. This will be finalized after a few workshops and consultations which will be organized with the help of eminent academies, and professional and educational planners. The process will take at least six months. If the fine-tuning takes more time, the Five Year Academic Development Plan will be started in 2010.

Process:

The plan will be mostly made internally and every member of the different faculties and some senior students with academic merit will be involved at all stages.
