WELCOME to Dr A P J ABDUL KALAM CENTRAL LIBRARY

 

LIBRARY INFORMATION CENTRE

The Library was started in the year 1988 with about 600 books, grown to have 27674 books in 2018. During the month of June 2015 the Library was shifted to a separate building with three storage building named Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Central Library. Library is housed in a magnificent building almost in the centre of the campus occupying the carpet area of 7,347 sq.ft The library system in the college includes a Central Library and Departmental Libraries.

VISION

  • To provide a student-centred learning environment that facilitates transference of information and to cater to the needs of its users to access it.
  • To explore and implement innovative technologies and services to deliver information and scholarly resources, conveniently to users in the campus.

OBJECTIVES

  • The Library intends to incorporate the latest technology and adopt user friendly approach towards students and faculty
  • We develop, organize, provide access to and preserve materials to meet the needs of present and future generations of students and scholars

WORKING HOURS

The library will remain open on all days, except Sundays and Govt. Holidays

  • Monday to Friday   – 8.15 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
  • Saturday                   – 8.15 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
  • Examination days   – 8.15 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

EXTENDED WORKING HOURS

  • Monday to Sunday   – 6.30pm to 9.00pm

SEATING FACILITIES

  • Seating capacity of the Central Library for 200 users

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Our Central Library is subscribed 208 National and International Journals and Magazines for various disciplines. Necessary steps have been taken to subscribe more number of journals and magazines to enhance the research activities.

INTERNET

INTERNET facility is available in the library to access e-books and e-journals, which are useful to research scholars to enhance their quality of research activities.

AUTOMATION OF LIBRARY

TBAK Library is fully computerized using an integrated multi-user library management system. Bibliographic records of book collections, periodicals, Thesis, Reports, Proceedings, News clippings and CDs/DVDs are available in library database and are accessible through Library OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue).

BAR-CODED CIRCULATION SYSTEM

The Library uses Bar-Code technology system for circulation of books (Issue/Return/Renewal) since September 2011

FUTURE PLAN

  • To digitalize the available resources and thus making the library a digital library
  • RFID System for Library
  • To take membership of more libraries and share their resource
  • To make use of open source tools for online education

  • Separate Xerox wing in the library to get photocopies of study materials

LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Open access system is followed.
  • Silence should be strictly observed in the library.
  • Bags/belongings are not allowed inside the library
  • On entering the library, only paper and pen can be taken in for reference work. The ID card and brown cover or newspaper shall be taken in when books have to be borrowed
  • Reference books, magazines and journals will be issued for overnight only.
  • The books are to be left on the reading table and need not be replaced in the shelves after reading or reference.
  • All books and journals must be returned on or before the due date.
  • Library books are to be used with utmost care and to be returned without any damage.
  • Students should not write or draw anything on the books, periodicals and newspapers.
  • The college library runs a book bank for the benefit of the poor students.
  • Alumnae students, mothers of the Pearl Montessori School students and teachers of the local schools, community college staff and Housewives of kilakarai can make use of the college library after the college working hours.
  • The library accepts donations of manuscripts, books and journals etc., which are found useful to the students
  • Usage of mobile phones is not permitted inside the library.
  • Students & Staff must produce the Identity Cards while borrowing the books
  • All books must be returned to the library before the end of the semester
  • Members must replace the book if lost with latest edition along with overdue charges.
