Great leaders are born young and few can exemplify this better than B. S. Abdur Rahman, the Founder of Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women. A lad of barely nine or 10, he showed the first signs of being a visionary with a mission when he went round Kilakarai, his native village in Tamil Nadu of India, along with friends, urging non-school going children to attend school. Even as a boy, he has wondered why schools of international standard were so few in rural India. He was determined to do something about it. Wordly- wise and practical, he drew his lessons in life. According to him, it is hard to make money and harder to keep it. But it’s the hardest to utilize it for the right purpose. With vision and enterprise, he established various businesses but he utilized his energies to build charitable institutions. He believed education was the key to empowerment. He had denied himself higher education in his quest for riches but he compensated it in plenty by offering education to others. With a missionary zeal almost, he set up a number of educational institutions, making special efforts to uplift the downtrodden sections of society, particularly women. Muslim girls had to stop their studies with school education due to lack of tertiary level institutions for girls in his native town. Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women, Kilakarai was established in 1988 with residential facilities for girls not only in Ramanathapuram District but also from the surrounding Districts. The institution has attracted girl students from neighboring countries also [e.g. Ceylon, Malaysia, Thailand and Sudan. The torchbearer for multitudes of beneficiaries from the down – trodden sector is the peerless Alhaj B S Abdur Rahman. Service- motivation, commitment, broad outlook, relentless aspiration and a thirst for venture and knowledge are a few of the efficacies in his journey into charity. A colossus with a magnificently sympathizing soul, he ranks above all humans in the cause of the society.
A Tribute to ALHAJ B. S. ABDUR RAHMAN, Our Beloved Founder
He is a serial entrepreneur
An active and busy philanthropist
An achiever of name and fame.
At 20, he knocked at all doors in Kilakarai.
“Send your children to schools”, was his plea.
All right deeds our educationist did with glee.
Muslim girls stopped their studies with school education-
The pitiable educational condition- A cause to lay the foundation
For the first tertiary level institution for girls in Kilakarai.
TBAKC attracts even girl students from neighbouring countries.
[Ceylon, Malaysia, Thailand and Sudan]
Many more miles to travel
Much more treasures to unravel.
Through his institutions, were carried out Educational & Literacy activities:
The Seethakathi Trust, All India Islamic Foundation, B.S. Abdur Rahman University,
Islamic Studies & Cultural Centre, B.S.Abdur Rahman Zakat Foundation Trust
Revealed was his thirst for venture, knowledge and relentless aspiration.
Empowerment of women starts with the celebration of education.
Our Founder- a father of education
Though landed on many foreign lands,
A teetotaller was he.
Goodwill was his positive feature
Honesty was his honourable nature.
Language was no barrier to his career;
Crores of business contracts
Closed all deals just with signs.
A gem who dealt with gems!
Dear is this genius
To his family and the general public.
Millions were his recruits
Billions are his returns
For the society all he returns!
His diamond companies in Indian and foreign soils offered
Only for fifty to hundred labourers’- jobs assured.
Then took up construction as vocation
A dream of one man to eradicate unemployment.
For him, “Business is not just about self but also about society”.
70,000 Indian families now dream with ETA.
The great friendship with M.G.R
Crowned him as “Baby”.
A baby among babies brought billions of applauses.
A man will always have need
His meticulous mind can mind that seed.
Yet, his munificent deeds come before his need.
He is the real honey
Did nothing for money.
But did everything for many without money.
He had a heart that was tender,
Created history by giving Rajiv Gandhi
A coconut that was tender.
Still his service to society continues to render…
The dignitary’s individual achievement and beneficence
Inspires many to bloom as bright flowers.
Makes one wholesome and lead a life of fruitfulness
To one’s own self and selflessly serve others…
